May 2018 Message from the HGCAA President – John Helweg
I’m back from my 4 day cruise-cation and we hit the ground running. The very next day we had a TBFAA Board meeting in Austin in conjunction with the Central Texas Chapter. Van flew in from Hawaii and meet me there. Their meeting went well. They had an amazing guest speaker. Quite possibly one of the best I’ve ever heard. His name was Richard Hellen. I’m gonna try to get him as one of our guest speakers.
We had a great meeting in April. I’d like to thank ECD for hosting us and providing food. We had a full house. Please remember, our associate members support us, so please support them.
Our guest speaker was RenEarl Bowie with DPS. He spoke with us about TOPS & Sunset among other things. The room was full, we had new members sign up and we had several new faces.
Our upcoming meeting is May 10th at Anixter North. Please don’t forget to RSVP. Our guest speaker is Aaron Thomas with DMP giving the second half of his How to Sell to Millennials presentation.
See y’all soon,
John C. Helweg

May 2018 TBFAA UPDATE BY PRESIDENT – KELLY RYAN
The Sunset Commission has released their report on the Department of Public Safety. In the report, there is a lot of detail as it pertains to the Private Security Board, and there are suggested changes that will directly affect private security companies.
For example, the report states that “Overregulation and Unclear Authority Hamper DPS’ Private Security Program,” and as it relates to the PSB, the report states “having a separate board impedes efficient regulation of the private security industries,” and that the PSB be changed to an “advisory committee.”
The Sunset report also recommends deregulating 10 registrations that includes security salespeople and qualified managers.
If you have not had a chance to review the recommendations of the Sunset Commission, I highly encourage you to review the document. The report is accessible through www.sunset.texas.gov or you can contact me at president@tbfaa.org and I’ll forward the report to you.
For those that don’t like the recommendations of the Sunset Commission, the time to act is now. Get involved with your local association as well as the TBFAA. Our legislative team is working on a plan to protect the interests of the alarm industry in Texas and your comments and involvement is needed.
Stay informed! Be sure to “like” the TBFAA Facebook group and follow @TxBFAA on Twitter. Make your plans to attend the upcoming TBFAA convention in Austin on October 11 th & 12 th . (October 10 th is golf!)
Sincerely,
Kelly Ryan

GREAT ARTICLE ON WHEN TO TELL YOUR EMPLOYEES YOU ARE SELLING YOUR COMPANY!
As of June 1, 2018, Verizon will no longer support the activation of new CDMA modules. To better support our Partners, Alarm.com has worked with Verizon to ensure that all existing CDMA modules in the field will continue to signal until December 31, 2022. Additionally, the Alarm.com Account Recycle feature will continue to be available for previously installed CDMA modules.
For the greatest customer life and value, we highly recommend the use of LTE modules whenever and wherever possible. Alarm.com offers LTE modules for virtually every panel we support. And with faster speeds, greater data capacity and extended network life, installing LTE modules now delivers a better customer experience and minimizes the need for future truck rolls.
Please contact your Account Executive with any questions.
